Controversial Town of Owego 9/11 Monument Dedicated Sunday
A controversial monument will be dedicated at 8:30 Sunday morning in Town of Owego's Hickories Park. Of course, a great deal of discussion has surrounding its use of wording. It reads that nineteen "Islamic terrorists" were responsible for the attacks.
Fox 40 has followed this story as it unfolded. First, a group known as the "Children of Abraham of the Southern Tier" wrote a letter to Town of Owego's supervisor. It suggested that the wording be changed to something that was also historically accurate, "al-Qaeda terrorists." Then a regional and even national backlash to changing the wording began.
As of now, the wording "Islamic terrorists" will be on the memorial when it is dedicated.
