A Barker home invasion suspect faces new charges -- and potentially, more prison time -- after a new indictment was handed up in Broome County Court.

A special prosecutor was appointed to 26-year-old Timothy Ellis' case, when changes in the Broome County District Attorney's staff resulted in a conflict of interest. Special prosecutor benjamin bergman obtained a new indictment against the defendant, who was originally charged with attempted murder in the second degree and two counts of burglary.

Ellis now faces felony counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and second-degree burglary.

Police say in September 2010, Ellis and two other men entered a Walters Road home, stole property and beat a woman so severely that she was left permanently disabled.

If convicted on all charges, Ellis faces 40 years to life in state prison.
