One man was rushed to the hospital for hypothermia after falling into Whitney Point Lake on Saturday.

New York State Police say the man took his new sail boat with ice blades out on the frozen lake. They said the man accidentally drove the boat off of the ice shelf. The ice skates don't float which caused the boat to sink, leaving the man in the freezing cold water.

The Whitney Point Fire Department's Swift Water Rescue Team, responded to the incident around 1:00 p.m. and was able to pull the man out of the lake. According to NYS Police, the man was in the water for about 15-20 minutes before the rescue which caused hypothermia.

Police say the man was rushed to the hospital to be treated. His current condition and identity have not yet been released.

Police say his sail boat was not recovered.
