Warm reception brings smile to Sindelar's face
He may not have won a tournament at En-Joie since 1987, but Horseheads native Joey Sindelar always has one of the biggest followings and loudest cheers while competing at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. As he left the course after sinking a 30-foot birdie on the final hole of the weekend, he got a raucous ovation that was eclipsed only by that of Jeff Maggert tapping in for par to claim the 2015 DSGO Title. While Sindelar may have finished in the top 10, the continued support doesn't go unnoticed.
"It's great. There's nothing more fun than walking up to 18 or on 9 they always have a good crowd over there and it's just fun," he said. "It's a time to remember... there's been a few lousy tournaments, a some great tournaments and it just kind of brings me back to the past 30 years and everything that's gone on here and creates a big smile."
Sindelar finished the weekend at (-4) tied for 34th.
