An organization is taking steps towards forgiveness after times of tragedy.

Saturday, the American Civic Association held it's first Steps 4 Forgiveness event. The event was in honor of 19-year-old Scott Wright Jr. who was killed in Binghamton last year.

He is the nephew of the organization's new Executive Director Mayra Garcia.

She says the event also commemorates the victims of the ACA mass killing in 2009.

The event included things like a live band, speeches, multi-cultural foods and art, all with the theme of working together to progress during times of hardship.

"Life continues and we're not in this world permanently. We're going to leave one day and we just have to learn to forgive in order to move forward with our life," said Executive Director of American Civic Association Mayra Garcia.

The American Civic Association will hold their 12th annual Garlic Festival on August 8th.
