A SUNY Broome Professor is throwing his hat into the ring for Binghamton City Council.

Giovani Scaringi is running as a Republican in the City's First district. He says the first ward has been the forgotten ward. He points to the need to repair what he calls long-neglected roads. He also wants to encourage police to work more closely with neighborhood watches in the first ward, and lessen regulations for those who want to renovate their homes.

"There are an incredible number of resources city-wide that have not been put here with regard to roads, with regard to code enforcement and things of that nature. So it's these quality-of-life issues that have worn down the First Ward," said Scaringi.

Scaringi teaches economics at SUNY Broome. As of now Scaringi is the lone republican running for the seat. He will face incumbent Democrat Jerry Motsavage in November.
