Jones released on continued bond with no travel restrictions
As far as the law is concerned, Endicott native Jon "Bones" Jones will fight in UFC 187 against Anthony Johnson on May 23 in Las Vegas. Jones was released on $2,500 bail late Sunday night, and released on continued bond after his first hearing in Bernalillo County Court Monday with travel restrictions lifted.
Jones turned himself in Sunday night following the issue of an arrest warrant for Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident, after the light heavyweight champion allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque, NM. A pregnant woman in her 20s involved in the accident suffered a broken arm, upping the charge against Jones from a misdemeanor to a felony. Witnesses saw a man, presumed to be Jones, flee the scene of the accident, return, remove a large handful of cash from the vehicle, and leave again. Police reportedly found a marijuana pipe with marijuana in it also in the car.
Jones has had other legal issues since his rise to fame as the pound-for-pound best fighter in mixed martial arts. Just this January, Jones tested positive for cocaine, causing him to enter a drug rehabilitation center which he checked out of after just one day. Back in May 2012, Jones was charged with felony DWI but pleaded down to a misdemeanor after crashing his Bentley into a telephone pole in Binghamton.
The UFC has not commented on the matter as the investigation is still on-going. With the travel restriction against Jones lifted, he is still slated to fight Johnson in Vegas on May 23rd, no change to the card has been announced by UFC at this time.
