A Town of Maine native is bringing his company back home. Jared Bowling is the head of Lightspin Technologies, which develops semiconductor photo sensors for physics experiments or medical applications. One job is relocating from New Haven, Connecticut to Binghamton University this summer with Bowling aiming to add another in a year.

Over the next five years he is looking to add 14 jobs. Bowling says the tax-free advantages of the Start Up NY program made the goal of moving his company back home easier.

"I'm from here, grew up here. Building the business here is certainly a huge priority to me. It just really made a lot of sense. The program with the tax incentives certainly made it a much easier and better decision," said Bowling.

Baceapp Corporation will also move to BU's campus, briging 25 jobs as part of Start-Up NY. According to the Empire Center for Public Policy last year the state spent about $53 million in advertising for the program, with $50 million allotted in the 2015-16 budget. This after the program created just 76 jobs in 2014. The Governor's Office responded the program needs time to take root.
