Vestal Athletics Prepares Broadcasting Team For The 2024 Season

Vestal Central School Athletics is building a product both on and off the field with their new broadcast team. The production crew features interns from Syracuse University as well as Vestal students, Athletic Director Josh Gannon says this has continued to grow when it comes to involvement over the last season.

"We have doubled our interns from Syracuse for this coming school year," said Gannon. "We are excited to promote what we are doing at Vestal within our athletic program and we are also really excited to incorporate current Vestal students to help with roles in the broadcast."

Graduate student at Syracuse, Jack Ziskin says the set-up that the school has provided has features that correlate to professional productions.

"My old boss works for the NHL and all of our broadcast stuff we modeled that off what the NHL did," said Ziskin. "The fact that Josh is very similar in terms of his systems and process is to that is very good".

Another graduate student at Syracuse Matea Kanicki reflects on her time back in high school and says students should take on the opportunity the district is giving to them.

"I wish I would have had that in high school," said Kanicki. "I think it is an amazing opportunity for these kids to dip their toes in and figure out maybe this is something they would want to do after high school".

Vestal student Brenden Horn says this allows him to make connections further down the line, Horn interns with the state athletic department and has shot games at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse for the NYSPHSAA State Championships for football.

"It is cool to work with them here and work with them there and have relationships that you can reach out to people, and when you need to have some questions answered".
