100 Years Ago is brought to you by Broome Recycles.

100 years ago today, the annual Christmas party for the children of Binghamton was held this morning at the Binghamton Theater on State Street. The party was sponsored by the Binghamton Press and was attended by 3,420 boys and girls – and one dog.

The Wilkinson Manufacturing Company, makers of children’s sleds, wagons and push toys, announced that they are donating 100 sleds and 25 push cars to the poor children of this city. The gifts will be handed out by Santa Claus at the annual Salvation Army Christmas party, at their building on Washington Street.

In Johnson City, about 500 little children and their parents are expected to attend a Christmas party given by the Endicott Johnson Medical Department at the Central Fire Station.

Finally, it’s going to be a cold weekend. The temperature in Binghamton tomorrow is expected to dip below zero for the first time this season.

And that was the news 100 years ago.
