Johnson City and Binghamton High Schools Hold Graduation Ceremonies

The first ceremony today was Binghamton High School who graduated in the Floyd L Maines Veteran Memorial Arena.
288 Binghamton High seniors filled the arena floor, and the event was filled with Pomp and Circumstance, going all out with streamer and confetti cannons.

An emphatic sendoff as students look forward to college and the workforce.
Simon Joyner, the Valedictorian for the Class of 2019, said "Right now I am going to be attending Clarkson University to study civil engineering" "It will be a really good change... It will be a whole new experience... A lot of us will be able to have all these new experiences and try all these different things..."
Kevin Richman, Binghamton High School Principal, said "As a principal it is the most important day of the year for me... Also the most exciting day of the year... It's all the hard work the kids have put in their entire career... For us the four years of high school... It's just a culmination of everything... It's a very proud day for us to watch our kids walk across the stage..."

Meanwhile, in the Binghamton University Events Center, Johnson City High School was preparing to get their diplomas.

The senior class had 167 graduating, and while some are heading into the workforce. Many of the graduates are heading to college, and for them holding the ceremony in Binghamton University is advantageous.

Paula Grassi, the Principal of Johnson City High School, said "It's symbolic of the next step their taking... Their going on to college so it's nice to have it in a setting where they can see a college that they may be going to..."
"The importance is celebrating our students that have worked so hard to get to this point and to acknowledge all that they've accomplished..."
