Fred Akshar's senate win didn't just give him a new job, it also gave new tenure to Broome County's Undersheriff.

Eric Janis joined the Sheriff's office after 33 years with the State Police after Akshar took a leave of absence to run for Senate. Now that Akshar has won, Janis and Sheriff David Harder agreed to make Janis' appointment permanent.

"Even though it was possibly an interim job I'm hired and filling the position currently so it was just a question of the Sheriff and I sitting down and discussing things, where we want to go from here. We made a decision that I would stay," said Janis.

Janis says his immediate priorities are to update the office's policy and procedures as well as jail manuals.
