2016 Dick's Open moved up to July
With several players from the Champions Tour, PGA Tour, and Web.com Tour expected to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, next year's schedule is being shuffled around. As a result, the 2016 Dick's Sporting Goods Open will move up to early July, running July 8-10.
Tournament Director John Karedes says this is a temporary move, done specifically for the Olympics and that in 2017, the DSGO will move back to August.
"It's a one year move," said Karedes. "We're looking forward to going back to the second week of August come 2017. But, I think we've proven as a tournament that's had dates in June, July, and August, the community loves the event. They're coming out no matter what time. We've had one of the best fields year after year. Golfers have said, don't worry, you're making this move, we're going to be here. I think at the end of the day it's just a date change on the schedule for us, a temporary one at that."
Karedes also said that next year's field could be pretty spectacular as there are no Champions Tour tournaments on the weeks before for after the Dick's Open.
