On Thursday night the Democratic Women of Broome County were showcasing their cooking talents.


They along with some local celebrities were taking part in a chili tasting contest at the American Legion in Vestal. This year 16 people entered the race and the proceeds from the event benefit the women's scholarship fund where each year they award two 800 dollar scholarships to 2 Broome County high school graduates.


Carol Howell, Treasurer of The Democratic Women of Broome County said, "We think it's very important for young women in particular, who are going to college to have help. But I can tell you, Democrats can cook because we had really good chili."


Women applying for the scholarship fill out a form and then write an essay. Then 2 winners are chosen.
